Is Anglesey Dog Friendly?
One of the questions we frequently get asked by potential new holiday home owners is whether or not Anglesey is Dog Friendly.
We always give a resounding “Yes” as the answer to this question. The reasons for this owe largely to the huge array of attractions, restaurants, cafes and beaches that welcome dogs on the island. This means that anyone enjoying a pet friendly holiday on Anglesey is sure to never get bored irrespective of how many times they have visited the island.
To underline our point, we’ve put together a collection of the best dog friendly amenities on Anglesey made up of visitor attractions, walks, activities, restaurants, pubs, cafes and more. Read on so that you can plan out exactly how you are going to spend your next pet friendly holiday on Anglesey…
Dog Friendly Beaches
Anglesey is the perfect destination for a seaside holiday with there being over 40 different beaches on the island, each of which has its own unique character and USP. While the majority of these beaches are pet friendly during off-peak periods, there are only 7 beaches on Anglesey that have no restrictions in place at all.
Two of these beaches without restrictions are located right on the doorstep of our two Anglesey holiday parks. Firstly, Silver Bay beach is directly accessible from our Rhoscolyn resort being no more than just a short walk away from our holiday home owners doorsteps. This green flag award winning beach is ideal as the starting point for coastal walks or a relaxing day out at the seaside providing holiday makers with clean waters, soft sands and tranquility on account of being rather off the beaten track for those who don’t own a holiday home at our resort.
Another dog friendly beach on Anglesey without restrictions is Lligwy Beach. This is just a five minute walk away from Woodland Falls Holiday Park and is another green flag award winning beach which is perfect for a family day out at the seaside. There is an acclaimed on-site cafe here which opens during peak season. Here you can treat yourself to hot & cold beverages, in addition to a range of takeaway items including their fantastic freshly made pizzas.

Dog Walking Routes
Of course, the aforementioned beaches are also incorporated into the many of the best walking routes on the island. One of the best of these for those who have an interest in history is the walk from Lligwy Beach to the Lligwy Burial Chamber which is believed to have been constructed over 4,000 years ago during the Neolithic period. In addition to being a burial chamber, this ancient construction is also believed to have served as an agricultural calendar for the local inhabitants. The chamber is located less than a mile away from Lligwy Beach, making it an ideal short walk for anyone who owns a holiday home at Woodland Falls Holiday Park.
Alternatively, if you are a holiday home owner at Silver Bay Holiday Park you may be interested in the Silver Bay Beach circular. This 2.3 mile there and back walk commences at Silver Bay Beach and leads towards the turning point at Borth Wen Beach. Both of these beaches tend to be quiet, giving you the chance to simply soak up the sea air and enjoy the tranquility.

Dog Friendly Eateries
If you enjoy eating out, there is no reason for your dog to prove an inconvenience on Anglesey with there being plenty of pet friendly cafes and restaurants on the island. Let’s start off with the cafes because some of these are absolutely entrenched in Anglesey history having been open for up to almost 100 years.
The oldest of these cafes is Ann’s Pantry in Moelfre which is just 2 miles up the road from Woodland Falls Holiday Park. Since opening in 1926, the cafe has been a popular destination for holiday makers thanks to their exceptional cakes and mouth watering breakfasts.
Alternatively, you may want to dine at the Sea Shanty Cafe in Trearddur Bay which originally opened its doors in the 1940s. This cafe closed in 2002 but was much missed by the locals, resulting in the new and improved Sea Shanty Cafe re-opening in a different seafront location in 2016. Dogs are welcome both inside and out throughout the day. However, this rule changes at 6pm when the Sea Shanty is transformed from a cafe into a restaurant.
However, there are plenty of dog friendly restaurants on Anglesey too. One of these is the exceptional White Eagle Restaurant which is just a mile away from Silver Bay Holiday Park. Dogs are made to feel as welcome as the owners here, with the friendly team often feeding your pooch treats irrespective of whether you are sitting inside in front of the warming wood burner fire, or outside in the scenic terrace on a warm summer’s day.
The White Eagle is part of the Flocks Inn collection of restaurants which also consists of The Oyster Catcher in Rhosneigr. While the dog welcoming policy is the same, The Oyster Catcher even has its very own dog friendly menu which includes items such as the Puppydella. This consists of spaghetti, tuna, peas & olive oil!

Pet Friendly Pubs
Unsurprisingly, the White Eagle also makes it onto our list of the best dog friendly pubs on Anglesey in 2nd position behind The White Lion in Newborough.
The main reason for this are the facilities it makes available to pet owners which consist of an on-site shower, doggy shampoo and towels. This makes it the perfect pub in which to treat yourself to a refreshing drink after a long outdoor walk which has left your pooch a little dirty.
We have written a separate guide highlighting the best dog friendly pubs on Anglesey. As far as we are aware, The White Lion is the only one of these pubs to have its own dog showering facilities. However, do feel free to let us know on social if we are wrong about this.
Things To Do With Dogs on Anglesey
The aforementioned days at the beach, walks and pet friendly restaurant & pub visits are just a few of the many things you can do with dogs on Anglesey. However, there are plenty of other dog friendly attractions to take into consideration on the island.
One option is that you could pay a visit to one of the many historic structures on the island. In addition to the aforementioned Lligwy Burial Chamber, history buffs may also be interested in travelling to Beaumaris Castle. Dogs are welcome to join you on the ground floor sections of the castle as long as they are kept on a lead at all times.
You can make a real day of it at this historic town which is small but is jam packed with visitor attractions. Other dog friendly activities here include walks along the beautiful seafront & pier or grabbing a bite to eat at one of the pet friendly restaurants such as the Pier House Café & Bistro which is well known for its fresh fish dishes.
