There really is something for all members of the family on Anglesey, and this includes the four legged ones with the island being a treasure trove of pet friendly attractions. From beaches and woodland walks, to castles and boat trips, there are plenty of activities to choose from.

Here at Bulmer Leisure, we are unashamedly a bunch of dog lovers and we’ve been to the vast majority of the pet friendly attractions on Anglesey with our own four legged friends. That puts us in a great position to be able to judge what the best things to do in Anglesey with dogs are for anyone who is planning to visit the island in the upcoming months.

Without further ado, here are our top 5 best things to do in Anglesey with dogs:

1. Head to the Beach

There are plenty of stunning dog friendly beaches on Anglesey which are just waiting to be explored, and our North Wales holiday parks are situated just a stone’s throw away from two of the best of them.

Those who own a holiday home at Silver Bay will enjoy having direct access to Silver Bay beach which has recently been awarded a prestigious Green Coast Award on account of its excellent water quality and unspoilt natural environment. You can let your four legged friend run freely here safe in the knowledge that the waters are as pure as is possible.

Holiday home owners at our Woodland Falls Holiday Park meanwhile will find themselves situated just a short 10 minute walk away from Lligwy beach which was recently named the best beach in North Wales by The Sunday Times. In addition to scenic coastal walks on Lligwy beach itself, you can also soak up the tranquillity that is afforded on the picturesque woodland walking routes which lead to the beach from our holiday resort.

2. Explore Newborough Forest

If walking is your thing, then there are plenty of other woodland walking routes you can choose from on Anglesey too. Some of the most popular of these are to be found in Newborough Forest on the south west shores of the island.

Animal lovers will love the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the endangered red squirrels, with Newborough Forest being one of the most important conservation areas in the United Kingdom.

There are a selection of different routes to choose from in the Forest. This includes an animal puzzle trail which is ideal for keeping the kids entertained as you make your way around.

If you would prefer to catch a proper glimpse of the inhabitant red squirrels though, then you may prefer to take the red squirrel discovery trail. You’ll find a number of information panels on your way around giving you the low down on the forest’s most famous residents.

3. Visit Beaumaris Castle

One of the most picturesque castles in Anglesey is unquestionably Beaumaris Castle. Surrounded by a fully functional moat, this historic wonder is quite simply awe inspiring and has a history which dates back to the 13th century.

What’s more, Beaumaris Castle is one of the few pet friendly castles to visit on Anglesey, with dogs welcome on all the ground floor sections of the historic building as long as they are kept on a short lead.

You can really make a day of it in Beaumaris with there being a plethora of pet friendly attractions in the town. After a visit to the castle, you can take a stroll down to the Beaumaris seafront and pier for a scenic coastal walk and enjoy a bite to eat in one of the dog friendly restaurants such as the Pier House Café & Bistro which is a haven for seafood fans.

4. Enjoy a Boat Trip to Puffin Island

Another popular attraction in Beaumaris are the Puffin Island boat trips which are available to catch from the seafront.

As the name suggests, there are quite a few puffins on this otherwise uninhabited island. In fact it is a special protection area for wildlife on account of being home to over 10% of the national population of these monochrome birds.

One of the few man made attractions on the island is the 12th century monastery ruins. You can pay a visit here on your way round the island which provides walks with spectacular coastal views. A trip to Puffin Island is sure to delight the humans of the group just as much as the pooches.

5. Grab a Bite to Eat

There are some genuinely fabulous dog friendly restaurants on Anglesey and picking the best of these is no mean feat. However, if you were to really push us on an answer to this query we would have to go with the Oystercatcher.

Situated in Rhosneigr just a few minutes walk away from Treath Llydan beach, this exquisite eatery has garnered a reputation for being one of the finest restaurants on the island. It offers a wide selection of fresh seafood in addition to more conventional gastropub classics.

The reason we have given it the nod over the competition is that it is genuinely one of the most dog welcoming restaurants on Anglesey on account of having its own “Doggy Dinner” menu. This consists of dog friendly variants of fish & chips, Sunday dinners and even Puppydelle (Spaghetti, tuna, peas & olive oil).

Customers are welcome to take their canines inside, but when the weather is accommodating we would highly recommend dining al fresco in the Oystercatcher’s outdoor terrace where you take in the wonderful coastal vistas.
