5 Great Beach Cafes To Visit On Anglesey

Posted: 10th August, 2021

Anglesey is an island that is filled with culinary delights, with countless award winning restaurants and welcoming cafes. It is the cafe’s that we are going to be focusing on in our latest blog post, more specifically the many great beach cafes on Anglesey.

We have had the painstaking task over the past couple of years of sampling the most notable beach cafes on Anglesey so that we can present our dear readers with a list chronicling what we consider to be the top 5 best beach cafes on Anglesey. Let’s start off in conventional fashion with our top choice…

1. Lligwy Beach Café – Lligwy Beach

Rated the No1. beach in North Wales by The Sunday Times, Lligwy Beach is truly stunning with very shallow waters and soft sands which are located just a short 5 minute walk away from our Woodland Falls Holiday Park.

Another reason to visit Lligwy beach is the exceptional Lligwy Beach Café which has recently made it onto the Guardian newspapers list of the 10 best beach cafes in the UK, never mind Anglesey or North Wales!

The cafe serves a wonderful selection of pastries, cakes and hot drinks. However, it is their hot food which is the real star attraction with the Lligwy Beach Café serving a popular selection of wood-fired pizzas and Asian Street Food which is simply to die for. You can then complete the dining experience by heading to their ice cream parlour which is very popular during those warm summer days.

2. Ann’s Pantry – Moelfre

Situated in the well known village of Moelfre, close to the beach sits Ann’s Pantry – a quirky café that’s been serving fresh local food since 1926. Dog’s are welcome to join their hoomans at the establishment which serves absolutely exceptional scones served with jam and clotted cream which are not to be missed.

If you prefer something savoury, their breakfast menu is served until 11:30 each day. This menu ranges from bacon and sausage baps, all the way through to your traditional Full English. The lunch time menu is equally as varied, with diners able to choose between sandwiches, soups and slightly heftier items such as their freshly prepared burgers.

One item on the lunch time menu that we would particular recommend is their slow roast BBQ pulled pork which is served with Welsh mature cheddar on a brioche bun.

3. The Bay Café – Benllech

If you are looking for a café with a view, then look no further than The Bay Café. Overlooking Benllech beach, diners can enjoy exceptional sea views as they tuck into an equally exceptional menu made up of various British classics. This includes pretty much every variant of a sandwich imaginable, with conventional sandwiches available alongside paninis, toasties, baguettes and wraps.

Alternatively you can opt for a jacket potato or one of their dessert items which includes the likes of cakes, scones and even milkshakes if you would prefer a drink that is a little sweeter than a coffee or tea.

The Bay Café also makes a concerted effort to offer dishes which cater for all dietary requirements, with vegetarian and gluten free options available. This includes on the breakfast menu which offers diners an invigorating way to start their day.

4. Coffee Cups Toll House – Holyhead

Nestled on the edge of Penrhos Nature Reserve, near Holyhead, Coffee Cups Cafe offers ramblers a well earned treat after a walk around the picturesque Penrhos Nature Reserve.

Diners can sit in the beach huts in the outdoor seating section and admire wonderful sea views. Menu options include sandwiches, paninis and freshly made cakes and scones. You can combine all of this with their afternoon tea option which is quite possibly one of the best afternoon teas on Anglesey.

5. Licence to Grill – Porth Dafarch Beach

Our final selection which just makes into the top 5 is actually a mobile catering van. However, the fact that it can often be found at the picturesque Porth Dafarch Beach near Trearddur Bay means that we can just about justify its inclusion.

Licence to Grill has the first word in local produce, offering a selection of freshly prepared feasts including mouthwatering burgers, breakfasts, jacket potatoes and fresh seafood items such as lobster, dressed crab and mussels.

This “Burger Van with a Twist” also serves an enviable range of desserts. This includes their locally made cheesecakes and dauntingly big ice cream tubs. You can keep up to date with where the Licence to Grill catering van can be found by following them on Instagram.

Obligatory Mention…

Of course, no list of the best beach cafes on Anglesey would be complete without a mention of The Deck House restaurant near Rhoscolyn Beach. Residing on the grounds of our Silver Bay Holiday Park, The Deck House serves a wide offering of hot, cold and alcoholic drinks which can be enjoyed in our rustic indoor dining area or on our outdoor decking space which affords stunning views overlooking the Anglesey coastline and Snowdonia Mountain Range.

Our expert catering team also offers a carefully selected range of menu options which are decided upon based on the seasonality of local ingredients. Restaurant opening hours do vary depending on the time of year too, so be sure to pop in and say hello to our team at any time, all of whom will be happy to answer any questions you might have about our eatery.
