The Best Dog Friendly Cafes on Anglesey

Posted: 27th July, 2015

With its miles of gorgeous coastline and plethora of countryside walking routes, Anglesey is a pet owners paradise. As you might therefore expect, there are plenty of pet friendly facilities available on the island and this includes some exceptional dog friendly cafes which are perfect for a welcome break after you’ve spent some time exploring the region .

Ahead of your next trip, we thought it might be useful if we were to put together a list of what we consider to be the best dog friendly cafes on Anglesey so that you know where to head to if you are looking to replenish your energy levels after a long walk with your four legged companion.

Let’s start off with an Anglesey cafe that is just a few miles away from our Woodland Falls Holiday Park:

1. Ann’s Pantry – Moelfre

Located little over 2 miles away from Woodland Falls Holiday Park close to Moelfre Beach is the legendary Ann’s Pantry which has been serving hot beverages and cakes to the region since 1926.

The history of the cafe is very much in evidence from the moment you walk into the building which has an olde world feel to it with its stone walls and tiled floors. You will however feel right at home straight away thanks to the welcome staff who create a welcoming vibe for all customers, even those with four legged thanks to Ann’s Pantry permitting dogs both in and outside of the cafe.

All of their cakes are freshly baked in house and the owners make a special effort to ensure that all other menu items are created using fresh local ingredients. The menu itself is remarkably varied with a mix of light bites, hot meals and incredible breakfasts which are sure to keep the hunger pangs at bay.

2. Sea Shanty Cafe – Trearddur Bay

The original Sea Shanty Cafe in Trearddur Bay closed its doors in 2002 after more than 60 years of trading. However, it remained a common discussion point amongst locals and inevitably re-appeared in a new seafront building some 14 years later.

Their new building was not only better located lying adjacent to Trearddur Bay beach, but also larger with more seating space for customers who were able to select from a far more varied menu which was more in keeping with the demands of modern times.

All members of the family are welcome to dine at the Sea Shanty Cafe which has a dedicated children’s menu alongside the adult offerings. The food served here really is top draw and you can even treat yourself to a seaside ice cream. Alternatively, you can also choose from a wide selection of alcoholic beverages with the latest iteration of the Sea Shanty Cafe being fully licensed.

As with Ann’s Pantry, the Sea Shanty Cafe is pet friendly both inside and out so long as dogs are kept on a lead at all times. The rules are tightened somewhat from 6pm each day when the cafe is transformed into a classy evening restaurant, but for the rest of the day the team do their utmost to treat dogs just as well as they treat their owners.

3. The Surf Cafe – Rhosneigr

Situated in a two storey building above Funsport on the Rhosneigr seafront is the exceptional Surf Cafe which was named the first plastic free business in Anglesey back in 2019.

From its elevated position, you can enjoy stunning seaside views and an exquisite range of meals and beverages which are served from 9am daily. Stand out menu options include their full English veggie breakfast, breakfast baps, sandwiches and range of hot meal options such as the surf dog which combines 2 sausages, melted cheese, fried onions and mustard on a fresh bread roll. There is even a mouth watering selection of sweet treats including baklava, cakes and Yarde Farm ice cream.

If all of that wasn’t enough, the cafe is also pet friendly making it the perfect place to relax after taking a stroll along Rhosneigr beach with your four legged companion. As a side note, Rhosneigr beach is also dog friendly throughout the year, making the village a great place to head to if you are looking for a dog friendly day out on Anglesey.

4. The Shed – Benllech

Located on the main high street in Benllech, The Shed markets itself as a cafe with a difference and this difference appears to be giving the people what they want. Here you will find exceptional breakfasts served all day, fabulous sweet treats including milkshakes, scones and cakes, plus coffee which is simply out of this world.

Your pooch is sure to love The Shed just as much as you will, with the friendly proprietors giving a more than warm welcome to dogs and even slipping them a few treats now and again with the owners permission.

The cafe is owned by the grandchildren of local man David Briggs, who was known for spending plenty of time escaping the stresses of life in his shed. This cafe was named in memory of Grandad Briggs and the many projects his grandchildren collaborated with him on inside his beloved hideaway.

5. The Island Cove Cafe – Benllech

Located less than two minutes away from The Shed is another pet friendly Benllech cafe in the form of The Island Cove. The cafe is a much deserving holder of a TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Award on account of the quality of the cuisine on offer. This includes an extensive selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free menu options which makes The Island Cove perhaps the best cafe on Anglesey for those with special dietary requirements

The owners will make just as much effort to make your dogs feel welcome as they will their vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diners with the cafe being another of the many dog friendly cafes in Benllech.

However, it is the sweet treats that The Island Cove is perhaps best known for. Here you will be able to choose from a wide selection of homemade cakes, brownies, cheesecakes and their famous bubble waffles which are an absolutely must try for anyone with a sweet tooth.
