Best Dog Friendly Restaurants in Anglesey
Anglesey is the perfect destination for a pet friendly holiday with a plethora of stunning beach, coastal, countryside and woodland walking routes which are ideal for exploring with your four legged companion by your side.
The high propensity of pet lovers holidaying on the island means that there are plenty of pet welcoming facilities and this includes some fantastic dog friendly restaurants. Ahead of your next trip to the island, we thought we’d put together what we consider to be the best dog friendly restaurants on Anglesey so that you know where to head the next time you are looking to quench those hunger pangs.
1. The Oyster Catcher – Rhosneigr
You don’t find many restaurants which have their own dog menu, but that is exactly what is on offer at The Oyster Catcher. Here you can choose between menu options such as a Puppydella which consists of spaghetti, tuna, peas & olive oil, fish & chips or even a Sunday roast consisting of turkey, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy. All of these options are accompanied by a fresh bowl of water for your furry friend.
The human menu is equally as tantalising being made of an eclectic selection of delights all of which are made using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This includes a number of fish dishes made up of mainstays such as traditional fish & chips in addition to The Oyster Catcher’s legendary fish pie which consists of hake, prawns, mussels, salmon and peas all served in a tasty parsley sauce and topped with mash & cheddar.
Alongside the restaurant, there is also Will’s Bar at the Oyster Catcher which serves drinks and snacks throughout the year. This also has its own dog menu, with owners able to treat their furry companions to a puppacino or breakfast bowl made up of sausage, mash & gravy.
2. The White Lion – Newborough
With a history dating back over 200 years, The White Lion has a chequered history and has long been thought of as being one of the very best pubs in Newborough. On the outside it doesn’t look very special, but that belies the exceptionally warm welcome you will receive from staff and the quality of the food on offer which is traditional but incredibly tasty.
Food is served throughout the day here, with diners able to select from the likes of bacon baps and a full English for breakfast, and a range of gastropub classics later on in the day such as lasagne, gammon, burgers, scampi, fish & chips and much more.
This is the perfect pub to retire to after a coastal walk for pet owners thanks to the doggy shower which is available to customers. You’ll even be provided with shampoo and towels at a pub which is perhaps even more welcoming to pets than it is to humans!
3. The White Eagle – Rhoscolyn
Just like The Oyster Catcher, The White Eagle is part of the Flock Inns collection of dog friendly restaurants in Anglesey. Despite this connection, the two pubs have their own unique character and menu which, in the case of the White Eagle, unfortunately means that there isn’t a separate dog menu.
Nevertheless, pooches are still more than welcome to accompany their owners to The White Eagle irrespective of whether they are nestled in front of the warming wood burner fire inside the pub, or soak up the sun’s rays on the outdoor terrace. You can expect your dog to be provided with water and treats by the pet loving staff, allowing you to focus on your own meal.
As with the Oyster Catcher, all of the food here is freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients. The fish dishes aren’t quite as varied here, but there are plenty of other options available including their tasty Parmesan Chicken Milanese and Penang vegetable curry which is ideal for those who are sticking to a plant based diet.
4. Dylan’s Restaurant – Menai Bridge
Dylan’s Restaurant in Menai Bridge first opened its doors back in May 2012 with a commitment to creating exceptional food made using ingredients sourced from the local North Wales region. This policy has served them well, leading to the brand expanding to encompass three further restaurants across the region.
The waterside location overlooking the Menai Strait and quirky boatyard aesthetic in the restaurant hints towards the fact that Dylan’s is very proud of its seafood dishes. These include their seabass tacos and Menai Strait pizza which is topped with mozzarella, crab meat, prawns, mussels, chilli, basil and chive oil. However, there are plenty of non-seafood options available on an incredibly varied menu of delights which includes burgers, pastas, pizzas and much more.
Dogs are of course more than welcome to join you irrespective of whether you dine in the restaurant or on the outdoor decking section. However, pet owners are asked to phone the restaurant to make a reservation beforehand so as to ensure that they can be allocated a pet friendly table.
5. The Bold Arms – Beaumaris
Beaumaris is the ideal place to head to on Anglesey if you are looking to enjoy a dog friendly day out thanks to the many pet friendly attractions in the town. This includes Beaumaris Castle and the many dog friendly boat trips that are available from the sea front such as the trips over to Puffin Island.
After a day exploring the region, there are plenty of pet friendly restaurants in Beaumaris to choose from but perhaps the most pet welcoming of all of these is The Bold Arms which even has its own doggie bar!
The food and drink available to the humans is also pretty special here too as long as you are willing to ignore the calories you will be consuming. Options include their so called ‘Hawt Dawggs’, loaded fries, pizzas and plenty of other mouth watering delights which certainly won’t do your waste line any favours.
