Breathe a sigh of relief, because Easter is once again upon us. That of course means warmer weather, fun family days out and plenty of chocolate.
If you are a holiday home owner at one of our resorts, then you’ll be delighted to know that there are plenty of fun things to do in Anglesey at Easter for all members of the family. From Easter egg hunts at historic castles, to scenic coastal walks taking in some of the most breathtaking vistas on the island, there is genuinely something for all ages and interests.
To help you plan out your Easter holidays ahead of time, we’ve collated a list of what we think are the best things to do in Anglesey at Easter taking into account any upcoming events and the many visitor attractions which continue to be a draw for tourists at any time of the year. Let’s start off our list at beautiful Beaumaris….
1. Beaumaris Castle
Every year Beaumaris Castle hosts a special Easter Extravaganza which really brings this stunning 13th century castle and the surrounding town to life.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an Easter event if there wasn’t an Easter Egg Hunt, and that is exactly what is on offer for children and any accompanying adults who suffer from a sweet tooth. Alongside this are Medieval crafts and even circus workshops where your little ones can learn new skills and simply have a great time.
Some of the local inhabitants will also be on hand to provide insights into what life was really like during the medieval period, providing educational but fun sessions that your children won’t soon forget.
That’s not all. There is also live entertainment at the castle during the Easter event where you’ll be able to watch the knights do battle as they attempt to conquer the castle and enjoy performances from jesters and musicians.
Once you’ve taken advantage of everything on offer at the castle, you can head into the surrounding town for a bite to eat. There are plenty of eateries that are well worth a visit including Pier House Cafe and Bistro where you can eat exquisite food whilst enjoying beautiful sea views.
2. Pili Palas
Beaumaris Castle isn’t the only Anglesey visitor attraction hosting an Easter Egg Hunt. Kids are sure to have a whale of a time at Pili Palas Nature World in Menai Bridge. Every year this family oriented zoo hosts a special Easter event where kids can hunt for the eggs which have been carefully scattered out across the park and enjoy first hand encounters with some of the resident animals. This includes the cute bunnies and guinea pigs at pets corner, and the friendly goats and donkeys in the farmyard. If you are lucky, you may even have the chance to feed a meerkat!
Away from the Easter themed activities, there are plenty of other attractions on site to keep children entertained. This includes an indoor soft play area, a choice of outdoor playgrounds and coin operated tractors to name but a few.
There is even a cafe on-site which serves a range of hot and cold food made freshly on-site. Children can choose from hot food such as chicken nuggets with chips or one of the packed Jungle box lunches which consist of a sandwich, a yoghurt, biscuit, crisps and a soft drink.
3. Anglesey Coastal Path
While the guide has been a little family heavy so far, there are also plenty of things to do on Anglesey at Easter for adults too.
One simple and free option is to enjoy a scenic walk along the Anglesey Coastal Path. This runs for roughly 135 miles around the perimeter of the island. While we aren’t expecting you to complete it all, you can enjoy a brief stroll on the part of the path which is directly accessible from Silver Bay Holiday Park.
Simply head down towards Silver Bay Beach and you’ll see a sign indicating how you can directly access the coastal path. Feel free to walk to your heart’s content as you soak up the fresh sea and glorious coastal views that the path is so famous for.
4. Easter Sunday Lunch
Of course, it wouldn’t be Easter if you couldn’t enjoy a good old fashioned British roast dinner and there are plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby that will deliver the goods.
If you are a proper foodie, then you may want to pay a visit to Château Rhianfa in Menai Bridge. This Grade II listed Hotel is home to Le Dragon Rouge restaurant which offers a Welsh inspired menu in a sophisticated setting. All the ingredients are sourced locally where possible and the Roast Dinner menu is available from 1pm each Sunday. After you have dined, you can then take the opportunity to explore the stunning grounds and gardens.
A slightly cheaper option also in Menai Bridge is The Anglesey Arms which is part of the J.W. Lees collection of gastro pubs. Don’t let the fact that it is part of a chain put you off because the Sunday Lunch here is spectacular. You can choose roast turkey, beef and lamb as your choice of meats, or even opt for all three together. Whatever you choose, each lunch will be served with all the trimmings, unlimited supplies of gravy and even an unlimited number of Yorkshire puddings.
5. Plas Newydd House & Gardens
Menai Bridge is a great place to stop off after you have paid a visit to Plas Newydd House & Gardens which overlooks the North Bank of the Menai Strait close to the easily pronounceable village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll.
This stunning manor house, whose origins can be traced back to 1470, hosts an annual Easter event for families where you can complete an Easter trail. Children will be kept entertained as they aim to tick the items off the list featured on the sheet they are provided with. Other items which come as part of the package are free bunny ears and a chocolate egg once the trail has been completed.
While this activity will keep the children entertained, the adults can marvel at the stunning grounds and gardens, in addition to the magnificent views looking over towards the Menai Strait.
