Julia Bradbury Best Walks with a View on Anglesey

Posted: 24th February, 2025

If you have watched the ITV Programme Julia Bradbury’s Best Walks with a View, then you may remember the episode where she spent some time on Anglesey.

As the name of the programme suggests, in each episode Julia Bradbury aims to highlight some of her favourite walks across the UK which offer spectacular views. Anglesey was ripe for picking and it is perhaps no surprise that the first episode of the series showcased one of Julia’s favourite walks on Anglesey.

The general rule on the programme is that walks must be approximately 10 miles in length and the route that Julia ultimately chose on Anglesey covered roughly 11 miles along the breathtaking Anglesey coastal path. Read on to learn more about the route and the magnificent sights that you stand to see when you complete it.

Julia Bradbury’s Anglesey Walk
Julia Bradbury’s Anglesey walk commences in Moel-y-don which is famous for being the scene of a great battle between King Edward I and the army of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd in 1282. It is now a popular fishing venue, with there being plenty of parking spaces along the coast.

From here you need to head westwards along the stunning Anglesey Coastal Path. As you walk, you can enjoy beautiful views overlooking the Menai Strait and soak up the fresh sea air. One attraction you will pass by is the Anglesey Sea Zoo. This is a great destination for a family day out, but you may be best saving this for another day.

Not long after this you will veer off the coastal path heading towards Pen-Lon which is home to the Anglesey Model Village; a fantastic attraction and another destination we would highly recommend for a fun day out on Anglesey.

Continue to walk straight on after this as you head towards the final destination of the walk, Ynys Llanddwyn. This small tidal island is famously the home of Saint Dwynwen who is the Welsh Patron Saint of Lovers. Effectively, this makes her the Welsh equivalent of Saint Valentine and she is celebrated in Wales every year on the 25th January.

On the island you’ll be able to explore the Church of Saint Dwynwen and an accompanying holy well which is said to be home to eels that can predict the romantic future of patrons. However, it is the island’s lighthouse which marks the finishing point of the walk. Built in 1845, the lighthouse has a striking aesthetic which is based on the many windmills across Anglesey at the time of construction.

Do be aware, that this is an out and back walk covering a distance of 11 miles all one way. You may therefore want to break it up across multiple days to avoid having to complete the return journey on foot. Alternatively, you may want to take advantage of a local taxi service to take you back to your parking location.

Which Restaurant Did Julia Visit?
If you are keen to visit the Julia Bradbury Anglesey Restaurant from the programme, then we are sorry to inform you that this has now closed. The Marram Grass closed its doors for the final time in 2021 due to the difficulties the industry faced on the back of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is despite it having being included on the Michelin guide and having received two AA Rosettes

It isn’t all bad news though because the brothers behind The Marram Grass have now opened a new restaurant on the island called Y Marram. The restaurant is only open three days per week (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) which makes getting a table tricky due to the popularity of the venue.

However, they do also host special events throughout the year which includes appearances from special guest chefs. Previous guest chefs have included Rosemary Shrager and Pip Lacey.
