Mr Holt’s Monuts on Anglesey
It’s a sad day in the life of any young child when they realise that Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory doesn’t actually exist. However, there is a place on Anglesey which comes incredibly close to replicating the magic created in the famous story and that place is called Mr Holt’s in Llanddeusant.
Located in the last remaining working windmill in Wales which was built way back in 1775, Melin Llynnon has more recently been turned into a magical Welsh chocolate factory and bakery where Mr Holt creates his mouth watering chocolate bars and world famous Monuts.
Read on to learn more about Mr Holt, his windmill and what it is that makes those famous Monuts so irresistible.
Visiting Melin Llynnon
For many years, the prospect of sampling Mr Holt’s Monuts was enough to draw tourists from miles around. However, the site has subsequently been expanded to include plenty of other family attractions.
Alongside the chocolate factory, bakery and cafe, you can now also take on the challenge of Mr Holt’s Escape Room. This is no ordinary escape room, with participants tasked to work as a team to fix Mr Holt’s broken chocolate factory machinery. Those who find the solution will be treated to a tour of the actual behind the scenes facilities.
Other on-site attractions which are sure to entertain children include the model safari and a pair of iron age style round houses which were opened by King Charles in 2007. These striking structures provide a fascinating insight into the lives of our Anglesey ancestors, adding a touch of education to a day which is otherwise filled with sugar.
Monuts on Anglesey
The vast array of activities and attractions on site ensure that Mr Holt’s is now a great destination for a family day out on Anglesey. But what is so good about these famous Anglesey doughnuts that they almost single handedly helped to fund the expansion of this world class family attraction?
Well, to answer that we will have to tell you a little bit about the mysterious Mr Holt. Prior to making the move to Anglesey, Richard Holt worked as the head pastry chef at a two star Michelin restaurant in London called Marcus. Working alongside famous head chef Marcus Wareing, Mr Holt perfected his art over a number of years and contributed to the restaurant’s impeccable reputation.
However, the draw of returning home to Anglesey eventually became too strong to resist. Once Richard became aware of the opportunity to take ownership of Melin Llynnon, it marked the beginning of a passion project with a view to bringing the windmill back to life. Utilising his superhuman baking skills, Richard donned his top hat and shiny red outfit marking the birth of the whimsical Mr Holt and his magical world of chocolate and Monuts which ultimately went on to fund the regeneration of what is now Wales’ only remaining working windmill.
The Illusive Monuts Menu
If you’ve been looking for the Monuts Anglesey menu, then you may as well end your pursuit now. Mr Holt has never shared the full menu online due to the exceptional popularity of his Monuts. This means that there is a very good chance that your preferred option may well have sold out by the time you make it to the front of the queue, and Mr Holt refuses to disappoint his customers.
What we can tell you is that you can choose from traditional ring Monuts, yum yums and luxury filled Monuts which look as good as they taste. You can also buy boxes of 6 ring Monuts or 6 filled Monuts to take away with you.
