Top 12 Indoor Activities to do This Winter
As the temperatures drop, it can be hard to keep the whole family occupied, especially during the Christmas holidays. We always make sure to keep the little ones occupied and that won’t stop this year, we’ve put a list together of some of our favourite indoor activities.
Indoor Activities
Have a Beach Day
Just because it’s freezing outside, doesn’t mean you can’t pretend it isn’t! Pretend it’s warm outside, put on your bathing suits, sunglasses and some summer music and have a beach party. We guarantee you’ll forget how cold it is outside.
Have a Movie Marathon
What better way to spend a cold day than snuggled up in front of the TV with your favourite films. You could let each person choose their favourite film or have a theme, but make sure you’ve got lots of snacks on hand so you don’t have to move all day.
Build a Fort
If you have lots of pillows, cushions and blankets in your lodge, you could make a fort inside. Why not have a competition to see who can make the best fort and have a sleepover in the winner. Not only is it a fun activity, it’s a great way to stay warm and cosy during the colder months.
Make Your Own Christmas Decorations
Getting crafty is a great way to pass the time and the little ones will appreciate the Christmas tree so much more if they can see their own creations hanging up as well. Even if Christmas has passed, you could always make some decorations and save them for next Christmas. Got enough tree decorations? Why not make your own wreath? Or paper chains and pom poms are easy to make but do the trick.
Have Breakfast for Dinner
Switching up your daily routine is a great way to get rid of the school holiday boredom and having breakfast for dinner is sure to go down a treat. You could cook up a full English, some pancakes, or just have a bowl of cereal, whatever takes your fancy.
Have a Pyjama Day
Don’t fancy going out in the cold? Why not spend the whole day in your pyjamas! This goes well with some of the other indoor activities ideas; maybe you could build a fort, have a movie marathon and then finish up with breakfast for dinner?
Have an Indoor Picnic
Just because it’s too cold to sit outside, doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a picnic. Prepare all your favourite picnic foods, put a blanket on the floor, and have your own indoor picnic. You could even tie this in with the movie marathon and enjoy your favourite films at the same time.
Do Some Baking
Whether you decide to do something simple or go for something more elaborate, baking is a great way to pass the time and spend time together as a family. You could even take it a step further and hold your own bake off competition with judges and prizes for the winners.
Play Board Games
Sometimes you can’t beat a day of playing board games and there are so many to choose from, from the classics to the more out-there options. You could each choose your favourite and take it in turns to play or, if you’re feeling extra creative, why not create your own?
Set up a Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger hunts are a great way to keep the little ones, and the big ones, occupied for hours. Hide a prize somewhere in the lodge and hide different clues to send them on a hunt for it. The prize can be anything you want and you can always make it more interesting for the adults by making it a boozy prize.
Create an Obstacle Course
Not only is this a great way to pass the time, it’s also a great way to get moving (we tend not to move as much at this time of year). The beauty of this activity is that you can use whatever you have to hand to create the course, whether it’s pillows and cushions or boxes and blankets.
Make a Scrapbook
These days, it’s so easy to take a photo on your phone to capture those important memories, but it’s also easy to leave them on your phone and forget about them. Why not print off all your favourite moments from the year (there are loads of great online services for you to easily do this) and create a scrapbook. This is something you can do as a family or by yourself, plus it’ll get your creative juices flowing.
We hope this has given you enough inspiration for indoor activities to do during the winter months. Do you have some ideas of your own? Let us know on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
