Posted: 11th October, 2024

Anglesey is renowned for its miles of stunning coastline and breathtaking beaches which continue to draw holiday makers from across the globe. It is something of a calling card and there seems to be an Anglesey beach for pretty much all occasions.

Irrespective of whether you are looking for a quiet beach for some soul searching or a thriving seaside town where you can build sandcastles with the little ones, there is sure to be an Anglesey beach to suit you.

We’ve utilised our knowledge of the island to put together a list of what we consider to be the top 10 best beaches on Anglesey, ensuring that we have provided a suggestion for every kind of holiday maker. Without further ado, here is number one…

1. Silver Bay Beach / Rhoscolyn Beach

Back in 2021, The Sunday Times released a list of the ‘Best Beaches in the UK’ and we were delighted to discover that Silver Bay beach was named the number 1 beach in the whole of Wales!

Otherwise known as Rhoscolyn beach, holiday Home owners at our Silver Bay Holiday Park enjoy having private access to this award winning beach which is renowned for the quality of its waters and unspoilt environment. It’s a safe and clean location which tends to be a little off the beaten track for many, making it one of the best quiet beaches on Anglesey to visit if you are looking for a little tranquillity. This also makes it a great spot for fishing, with a wide variety of species on offer including pollock, codling and coalfish.

2. Lligwy Beach

We have a bit of a talent for picking great locations on which to base our holiday parks, because our Woodland Falls retreat happens to be situated little over a mile away from Lligwy Beach.

Winner of the prestigious seaside award every single year since 2004, Lligwy beach offers clean waters and golden sands where you can admire miles of gorgeous coastal vistas.

Lligwy beach is also a great destination for water sports on Anglesey, with windsurfing and kite surfing both being popular pastimes at the venue. Make sure you bring your surfboard the next time you are in the area and unleash your inner adrenaline junkie.

3. White Beach / Traeth Gwyn

Named in deference to the white pebbles which are scattered across its surface, white beach is another one of those great secret Anglesey beaches which rarely achieves the same levels of acclaim as those in more populous regions.

However, it has a number of very redeeming features, including the shelter which is provided by the bordering cliffs from those occasionally troublesome southerly winds. This can make it a fantastic destination for sunbathing or enjoy short walks with your four legged companion on account of White Beach being pet friendly.

4. Traeth Llanddwyn Beach

Situated on the South Western tip of Anglesey, Traeth Llanddwyn is a sandy blue flag beach which affords spectacular views of Snowdonia across the waters on the mainland of Wales. You can enjoy these vistas whilst taking a short walk along this long stretch of coastline which measures over a mile in length.

However, it is its proximity to Newborough Forest and Nature Reserve which is perhaps the most prized feature of this beach in the eyes of ramblers. There are a plethora of walking routes to choose from here, with plenty of peaceful picnic spots to choose from along the way.

5. Llanddona Beach Anglesey

Another long, sandy beach which is something of a hidden gem on Anglesey is Llanddona Beach. Situated on the eastern end of Red Wharf Bay, this is a great location for coastal walks as it affords spectacular coastal and countryside views of the eastern Peninsula.

One such walk is perfect for those with an interest in the local history as it extends all the way to Penmon Priory; a former monastery with a history spanning back over 1,000 years.

6. Red Wharf Beach

Whilst we are in the local area, we may as well cover Red Wharf Bay’s famous Beach too. This large soft, sandy bay covers nearly 10 square miles of land and is home to a wealth of birdlife on account of being a designated nature reserve.

This makes it an ideal spot for birdwatchers, whilst horticultural hobbyists may be more interested in the rare plant life in the area which includes the pretty pyramidal orchid.

7. Trearddur Beach

Trearddur Bay is perhaps the most popular holiday hotspot on the island, with visitors from across the world being attracted by the breathtaking golden sands around which the entire village is centred. Here you can paddle, build sandcastles or simply sunbathe on a beach which is a picture perfect family destination.

The popularity of Trearddur Bay means that it is literally swimming in facilities, being home to some of the island’s best cafes, restaurants, bars and ice cream parlours. In summary, Trearddur Bay offers you the chance to roll back the years and enjoy a traditional British day at the seaside. The only reason it isn’t higher on the list is on account of its popularity, which makes finding parking spaces quite a challenge during peak season.

8. Rhosneigr Beach

Another destination which has been marked down on account of its popularity is Rhosneigr beach, otherwise known as Traeth Llydan. Another trait it shares with Trearddur Beach is that it is your quintessential family beach with soft, beautiful sands and clean waters.

However, Rhosneigr beach is perhaps best known for being a popular water sports destination. Irrespective of whether you are looking to surf, kayak, swim or snorkel, Rhosneigr is the perfect beach for you. There are also plenty of facilities on hand offering equipment rental options if you are looking to try out one of these activities for the first time.

9. Penmon Beach Anglesey

Penmon Beach is one of the best dog friendly beaches on Anglesey, being a remote pebbled beach which affords beautiful coastal views looking across to Puffin Island. You will also have the opportunity to take a closer look at Penmon Lighthouse which was built in 1838.

The fact that it is quite rugged, with a pebbled surface, means that it isn’t a mecca for traditional family days out at the seaside. Instead, you’ll be able to enjoy the tranquillity and feel safe in the knowledge that you will have plenty of space in which to avoid fellow dog walkers.

10. Newry Beach

Situated just a few minutes away from Holyhead town centre, Newry beach is the perfect destination for those who are looking to make a day of it at the seaside without being side-lined to sitting in a sunbed all day.

Not only do you have the many shops, cafes, bars and restaurants of Holyhead just minutes away, you can also pay a visit to popular visitor attractions such as the Holyhead Maritime museum. You can also take the opportunity to enjoy a walk along the Holyhead promenade or pay a visit to the marina.
