Best Dog Friendly Beaches on Anglesey

Posted: 20th January, 2025

With its many coastal walking routes, pet friendly attractions and dog welcoming eateries, Anglesey is the perfect pet friendly holiday destination for those who can’t stand to be away from their furry family members.

We emphasise with those of you who are in this position, which is why both of our Anglesey holiday parks are pet friendly, with many of our holiday home owners taking the opportunity to bring their pooches along with them each time they visit their home away from home.

To help our holiday home owners plan out their daily activities, we thought it would be helpful if we put together a list of what we consider to be the best dog friendly beaches on Anglesey so that you know where to visit if you are looking for a coastal walking route that the whole family can enjoy. Let’s start with two that are right on the doorstep of our luxury holiday parks…

1. Silver Bay Beach

One of the benefits of being a holiday home owner at Silver Bay Holiday Park is that you enjoy direct access to one of the cleanest and most picturesque beaches on the island. What makes Silver Bay beach even better is that it is in our view the very best dog friendly beach on Anglesey.

In fact, dogs are welcome on Silver Bay Beach throughout the year. All that we ask is that owners refrain from littering and pick up any deposits which are left by their furry friends so that we can ensure that Silver Bay Beach once again retains its much coveted Green Flag award. This is awarded to beaches which offer excellent water quality, no pollution, have active litter picking and are safe for public access.

Although the amenities at Silver Bay Beach are limited, you will only ever be just a short jaunt away from your holiday home whilst making the most of this dog friendly Anglesey beach. And if you are looking for a scenic walking route to enjoy with your pooch, then the famous Anglesey coastal path is also directly accessible from Silver Bay Beach.  You can walk for miles in either direction, soaking up the breathtaking coastal views and fresh sea air.

2. Lligwy Beach

Our holiday home owners at Silver Bay are not the only ones who benefit from access to a dog friendly beach on Anglesey. The same can be said for our holiday home owners at Woodland Falls Holiday Park too.

Just a 5 minute walk from Woodland Falls Holiday Park is the breathtaking Lligwy Beach. Just like Silver Bay Beach, Lligwy Beach is dog friendly year round and a green coast award winning destination. This award is given out in recognition of beaches that are judged to be naturally beautiful and offer a clean environment.

Whilst amenities at Lligwy Beach are generally limited, there is an on-site cafe which opens during peak season which is aptly named ‘The Lligwy Beach Cafe’. This is one of the best cafes in the region offering a range of hot and cold beverages, ice creams and an array of sweet treats and snacks. They even offer more substantial meals such as pasties and sensational beaches which are to die for.

In terms of activities, while you can enjoy a coastal walk at Lligwy Beach with your dog, it is also one of the watersport hotspots of Anglesey being a popular destination for bathing, surfing, kayaking and windsurfing. Simply put, there is something for all the family here.

3. Rhosneigr Beach

If you are a holiday home owner at Silver Bay Holiday Park and fancy a bit of a change of scenery, then you may want to take the short drive to Rhosneigr Beach which is roughly 13 miles away by car from our holiday park.

Rhosneigr is one of the most famous seaside resorts on Anglesey with thousands flocking to its two sandy beaches every year. Whatsmore, both Rhosneigr beaches are completely dog friendly throughout the year, with no restrictions in place.

Traeth Crigyll, otherwise known as Town Beach, is the most popular of these beaches as it is just a short walk away from the village centre. This means that you have access to plenty of facilities including a number of pet friendly cafes such as Mojos which is dog friendly inside and out.

4. Red Wharf Bay

Another dog friendly beach on Anglesey which permits dogs throughout the year is Traeth Coch in Red Wharf Bay. Translated from Welsh, this beach is literally called Red Beach and it’s easy to see why thanks to the bay mudflats which are famous for their red colouring.

Dogs are the only animals who enjoy spending time here, with Red Wharf Bay being a popular birdwatching venue with waders and waterfowl such as oystercatchers, curlew and dunlin being regular visitors to the beach.

Red Wharf Bay is also located right on the edge of the village centre. That means that there are plenty of nearby facilities and conveniences. This includes a number of pubs which afford exceptional views of the bay in addition to equally splendid bar meals.

5. Penmon Beach

The final destination to make it onto our list of the 5 best dog friendly beaches on Anglesey is Penmon Beach which is perhaps most famous for the iconic black and white Trwyn Du Lighthouse.

In addition to the lighthouse, this is also another bird watching hotspot as it looks over toward puffin island and is home to a number of seabirds. One of the reasons it is so popular with birds is perhaps it’s quiet nature. You’ll certainly feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere when you arrive here, which is ideal for those who just want to enjoy the peace and tranquility.

The whole beach is dog friendly throughout the year. However, one caution we would like to highlight is that the current tends to be quite strong here. We’d therefore advise avoiding letting your pooch take to the water.
