Things to do on Anglesey in February

Posted: 28th January, 2025

It may still be winter, but there are still plenty of great things to do in Anglesey in February which will keep all members of the family entertained. Irrespective of whether you are a history buff, enjoy the outdoors or a foodie, there is sure to be something on this fine island that will keep you entertained in this event-filled month.

We thought we would help to put a little sparkle into your winter season with our selection of the best things to do in Anglesey in February so that you can head into the month with a skip in your step. Let’s start with an activity which takes full advantage of the stunning natural beauty that the island has to offer:

1. Walk the Anglesey Coastal Path
Stretching out for roughly 140 miles, the Anglesey Coastal Path is an exceptional walking destination which affords exceptional coastal views and sightings of some of the island’s iconic wildlife.

If you are a holiday home owner at Silver Bay, then your holiday home is located just a few short steps away from the coastal path, affording you direct access to one of the quietest and most relaxing sections of the route. Simply head down towards Silver Bay Beach and follow the signs for the coastal walking path to your right. You can then walk to your heart’s content, but remember to wrap up warm if you are heading out on a particularly windy February day.

Our holiday home owners at Woodland Falls aren’t too far from the coast either with Lligwy Beach being little over a ten minute walk away from our woodland resort. If you head left from here you can head towards the beautiful harbour village of Moelfre, or take a slight detour from the coast and explore the historic Lligwy Burial Chamber which was constructed in the Neolithic period.

2. Visit a Castle
Remaining on the topic of historic Anglesey attractions, another great thing to do on Anglesey in February is visit one of the island’s many castles. Perhaps the most iconic of these is Beaumaris Castle which was built towards the end of the 13th century during King Edward I’s conquest of Wales.

What makes Beaumaris Castle stand out from others on the island is the fact that it is one of the few military constructions from that era which still has a working moat. It is also considered by UNESCO to be one of the finest examples of military architecture in Europe from this period and you can learn more about it when you head inside.

Throughout February, Beaumaris Castle is open 10am and 4pm daily, with final admissions accepting at 3:30 pm. Although it can be chilly at this time of year, it is one of the quieter periods where you will be able to explore without being obstructed by crowds. Photography fanatics will also be in the element, with the castle looking particularly atmospheric in the low winter light.

3. Anglesey Sea Zoo
If you would prefer to be inside, sheltered away from the elements, then you may prefer to pay a visit to the Anglesey Sea Zoo in Llanfairpwll. There are over 150 different native species on display here across 40 tanks.

These are split up into different sections which are largely dependent on the natural habitats of the different species. The front room is home to more common fish who are most likely to be found around piers and harbours. Other sections include the No Bone Zone where you will find some particularly alien looking species including the eye catching moon jellyfish.

Open between 10am and 3:45 pm throughout February, you’ll also have the opportunity to learn about the zoo’s conservation efforts. This includes their lobster hatchery where they are aiming to help arrest the drop in the total population of this species in our waters.

4. The Anglesey Farmers Market
Taking place on the 3rd Saturday of each February in Menai Bridge is the fabulous Anglesey Farmers Market. Held at the Princes Pier, this is a haven for foodies who enjoy cooking using fresh local produce or sampling some of delicacies which have been created by some of the region’s finest local businesses.

Here you will be able to sample freshly made bread, pies, soups, curry’s and ready meals which can be taken back to cook in your holiday home. Occasionally you’ll even see the odd celebrity, with the famous Liam and Ellis Barrie from the Y Marram restaurant known to have made an appearance. If they are in attendance, then we’d strongly recommend trying one of their sensational pork pies.

In terms of fresh produce, you’ll be able to source all the ingredients you need to try out a new recipe taking full advantage of the self catering amenities in your Anglesey Holiday Home.

5. Book a Valentine’s Day Meal
February 14th is of course Valentines Day and there are plenty of exceptional restaurants on the island where you can book a romantic meal with your better half. This includes of course our very own Deck House Restaurant at Silver Bay where we will be serving our usually high standard of cuisine which has been crafted using local ingredients.

Other eateries to take into consideration includes Dylan’s at Menai Bridge which has now expanded to include three additional restaurants across North Wales on account of its popularity. You’ll be able to choose from a selection of fresh fish dishes, with ingredients that have been caught from the local waters. Alternatively, the restaurant also offers a wide selection of pizzas, burgers and pastas, with something to accommodate various diets and tastes.

If you are a committed foodie who isn’t afraid to flash the cash in order to enjoy the best meal possible, then you may want to book yourselves into Sosban & The Old Butchers Restaurant which is also located in Menai Bridge. This is currently the only Michelin Star restaurant in North Wales, with head chef and owner Stephen Stevens having cut his teeth working alongside Gordon Ramsay at his three Michelin-starred Royal Hospital Road restaurant in London. With room for only eight diners in the entire restaurant, getting a table here is an incredible achievement and sure to win you some brownie points on one of the busiest nights of the year.
