Crabbing is becoming an increasingly popular activity for families as parents battle to combat the cost of living crisis which is impacting on all of our lives. This has resulted in an increase in the popularity of the kind of activities that were staples of a bygone age. Crabbing is just one of these activities.

If you do decide to go crabbing in Anglesey, then you will find that there are plenty of ideal destinations near our two North Wales holiday parks which are perfect for the activity. Here are just a few of them…

Your Toolkit
As we have noted, crabbing is a fairly cheap activity as it only requires a few rudimentary pieces of equipment. These are:

• A crabbing net or crabbing line
• Bucket filled with sea water
• Pungent bait.

Firstly you need to decide whether you are going to use a crabbing net or crabbing line. It is far easier to catch crabs with a net on account of its larger surface area. However, this larger size means that they are harder to transport than a mere fishing line. This is something to take into consideration if you are going to be walking to your chosen Anglesey crabbing location.

Another key item to take with you is a bucket which you should fill with sea water once you arrive on-site. The sea water will help to reduce the likelihood of your prized catch attempting to return to the waters. However, the sea water in this bucket should ideally be replaced after 10-15 minutes to avoid depriving your crabs of oxygen.

The bait you use should ideally be as pungent as possible. This is because crabs have an excellent sense of smell and will be attracted to smelly food items such as shellfish. Possible choices in this category could include mussels, cockles, sardines or even deceased crabs (yep, crabs are cannibals). If you don’t have any of these items to hand, you could also pick an out of date piece of meat from your fridge.

Best Places For Crabbing in Anglesey
One of the great things about crabbing, is that you can do it pretty much anywhere there is a large mass of water. Crabs are pretty much everywhere, meaning that any coastal region around the UK would be fair game. Apart from the sea, other possible locations to take into consideration would be a pier, harbour, quay or lake.

One popular location for crabbing in Anglesey which is in keeping with this is Beaumaris pier. Crabbing aside, it is also a lovely place to sit back and relax during a warm summer day. There are plenty of facilities near here too with Beaumaris being filled with mouth-watering cafes and historic landmarks such as Beaumaris Castle.

One other destination to consider if you are going crabbing in Anglesey is Trearddur Bay. This is located just 4 miles away from Silver Bay Holiday Park and generally considered to be one of the best family seaside towns on the Island with all manner of facilities dotted along the seafront. This includes the popular Sea Shanty Café which serves refreshing beverages, light snacks, larger sit down meals and sensational ice creams.

However, if you are lucky enough to own a holiday home at Silver Bay Holiday Park you will benefit from having Silver Bay beach right on your holiday home doorstep. You can take the short walk to the beach via our private path with your bucket and net in hand.

Woodland Falls Holiday Park also has an award winning beach just a short walk away from its gates in the form of Lligwy Beach. With its excellent water quality and off-the-beaten track location, it provides a quiet sanctuary which is a world apart from the noise associated with crowded tourist regions such as Trearddur Bay.
