Secret Beaches on Anglesey

Posted: 31st March, 2025

Anglesey isn’t lacking in beautiful beaches, with the likes of Trearddur Bay, Rhosneigr and Benllech beaches being amongst the most famous. These destinations draw tourists from across the world every year, made up of sun seekers, walkers and families looking to make the most of Anglesey’s thriving seaside resorts.

However, here at Bulmer Leisure, we aren’t ones for following the crowds. We’ve used our knowledge of the local area to put together a list of secret Anglesey beaches that will keep you away from the crowds and perhaps offer even more spectacular vistas than any of these better known seaside resorts.

Let’s start with two secret Anglesey beaches which just a short walk from our two holiday parks:

1. Silver Bay Beach
Otherwise known as Traeth Llydan in Welsh, Silver Bay Beach is the closest sand beach to Holyhead. You might think this would make it a tourist hotspot, but nothing could be further from the truth as a result of Silver Bay Beach being rather difficult to access.

That is unless you are a holiday home owner at Silver Bay Holiday Park. Owners at our Rhoscolyn resort enjoy direct access to Silver Bay Beach which lies adjacent to our resort. It is never more than just a few steps away from our holiday homes, meaning that owners can keep the car in their private parking space and simply make their way down to one of the best secret beaches on Anglesey with their bucket and spades in their hands.

You don’t just have to take our word for it when it comes to assessing Silver Bay Beach which is a consistent winner of the Green Coast Award; an accolade bestowed upon beaches that offer clean waters, a safe environment and have active litter picking efforts.

The difficulty parking close to Silver Bay Beach for non-owners and the accompanying walk that this necessitates ensures that it remains devoid of the large crowds that you would find at beaches such as Rhosneigr and Trearddur Bay. This ultimately means that the facilities are limited. However, with your holiday home only ever just a short walk away, you won’t need to trek too far in order to have a shower or grab a bite to eat.

2. Lligwy Beach
Silver Bay isn’t the only one of our Anglesey holiday parks which is located close to one of the best secret Anglesey beaches. Woodland Falls Holiday Park in Lligwy is situated less than a 10 minute walk away from Lligwy Beach near the quaint village of Moelfre.

Again, this beach is rather off the beaten track and largely devoid of crowds. This makes it ideal for Woodland Falls Holiday Home owners who are looking for a peaceful spot to soak up the sun or try their hands at watersports with the resort being ideal for these kinds of adrenaline fuelled activities.

While the facilities are again rather low key, there is the Lligwy Beach Cafe which opens its doors whenever the weather is accommodating during peak season. The food here is simply to die for, with a range of pizzas, noodle dishes and other hot and cold light bites available to purchase.

3. Porth Trwyn
Heading to the West coast of Anglesey now and the tranquil beach of Porth Trwyn near Llanfaethlu. This beach is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but a few cottages for company.

Here you will find a small sandy beach which is backed by dunes and pebbles. There isn’t much point visiting here during a high tide as the majority of the sand gets completely enveloped by the sea. However, once the tide is out it is a breathtaking walking location and is even dog friendly, so you can explore the region with your furry companion by your side. You also won’t have to worry about encountering any crowds, as the location and lack of facilities ensure that you are highly unlikely to be disturbed.

There are a number of rocky areas here which are perfect for rock pooling, but if you are in need of facilities you will have to make the journey to the nearby village of Llanfaethlu which is just a mile away from the beach.

4. White Beach (Traeth Gywn)
If you are looking for a sandy beach to build sandcastles on as part of a traditional British day out at the seaside, then White Beach isn’t for you. It is a cobble beach which is quite small at times of a high tide. However, once the tide is out you are highly unlikely to be disturbed by anyone thanks to the huge effort which is required to reach here.

With a narrow single track road and uneven steps between the main road and White Beach, actually managing to get to the beach unscathed is quite an achievement. However, once you do reach it you are in for a real treat particularly if you are looking for a good fishing location on Anglesey with the waters here being rich in bass, mackerel, pollock & many other popular species. You may even spot a dolphin in the distance if you are lucky!

White Beach is also the ideal wild swimming location on Anglesey as the waters here are almost always relatively calm and clear. However, if you just want to sit and sunbathe in complete tranquility, you are highly unlikely to be disturbed by any tourists even during peak periods.

5, Traeth yr Ora
Another beach whose popularity is hindered by the difficulty accessing it is Traeth yr Ora which is located on the North East coast of the island near the village of Amlwch. The nearest public car park is located near Lligwy Beach, necessitating a walk of a couple of miles to reach it. Of course, if you are a holiday home owner at Woodland Falls, then you may prefer to add a ten minutes either side of your walk so that you can commute from your holiday home.

Admittedly, this does prove off putting for the majority of people. However, it pretty much guarantees you a day of complete tranquility if you do make the effort to get here..

As you might expect, the facilities at Traeth yr Ora are pretty much non-existent. We’d therefore recommend making a packed lunch if you are planning to spend the day on-site. You can incorporate a walk along the beach as part of a longer coastal walk with your pooch thanks to the beach being dog friendly, or sit back and take in the sunset in a romantic setting.

One word of warning is that we’d only recommend going for a swim at Traeth yr Ora if you are particularly confident in your abilities. The seafloor drops away quickly and only once you are quite a way out from the shore creating the potential for danger.

If you think we have missed a location off our list of the best secret Anglesey Beaches, then please feel free to let us know via social. We love to hear about the many adventures that our holiday home owners have enjoyed on the island, so please get in touch.
