Which Holiday Home Should I Buy?

Purchasing your very own holiday home is a very big decision. Apart from the initial purchase fee, you will also need to consider running costs and on-going maintenance.

The holiday home you buy can have a massive impact on all of this with some manufacturers adhering to a higher baseline standards than others. That is where the BS3632 regulations come in.

What Are BS3632 Standards?

Back in 1963, the UK government published the BS3632 standards to dictate the minimum quality criteria that residential UK holiday homes should adhere to. This was intended to protect buyers by adding a layer of security in the buying process.

These standards cover a wide variety of areas. From a safety perspective, a minimum standard of building materials and construction methods are outlined to ensure that all holiday homes are suitable for habitation; fundamental in ensuring the safety of both yourself and your family.

Running costs are also taken into account with the inclusion of criteria such as insulation, double glazing and much more.

Do All UK Holiday Homes Meet BS3632 Standards?

The simple answer to this is, no!

Some holiday homes may instead meet the EN1647 standards which are an alternative set of regulations utilised within the EU.

Sadly EN1647 standards are nowhere near as extensive as those which govern the UK holiday home industry. The EU regulations are instead intended to provide a minimum standard of park homes which are to be used as temporary holiday accommodation as opposed to full time residential purposes.

Naturally this means that EU holiday homes do not need to be designed to be as enduring as their UK equivalents. This can impact not only on running cost on account of reduced insulation levels for example, but even affect safety standards with the building techniques outlined being far less stringent.

How Do I Know The Difference?

Any UK holiday homes which adhere to the superior BS3632 standards will proudly display the below logo. This is the easiest way to identify a holiday home which is designed to stand the test of time:

However, should you find yourself in doubt, make sure that you ask before committing to a purchase! You wouldn’t buy a car without looking into its Euro Ncap rating or fuel efficiency, so why act any differently when it comes to making the big decision on which holiday home is right for you?

Here at Bulmer Leisure, we can guarantee that all of the new and preloved holiday homes that we have for sale on our Anglesey holiday parks adhere to the more stringent BS3632 standards. When you purchase a holiday home from us, you can therefore be confident that your home away from home will be safe for your family and efficient when it comes to long-term running fees.

Introducing Bulmer Leisure

We are very pleased to announce the introduction of Bulmer Leisure, a name that will encompass all of our present and future holiday parks. After more than 30 successful years of Silver Bay Holiday Park and an expansion to the North side of the island in Lligwy, we introduce a name that will uphold the values we want to protect the very most. Any Bulmer Leisure holiday park will be the perfect place for families, couples and friends to have the opportunity to enjoy the stunning scenery of Anglesey from the comfort of our luxury caravans and lodges.

Bulmer Leisure will continue to uphold the same values and family ethos we always have. Creating a real focus on cleaner, environmentally conscious parks and engaging with the local community through employment and partnerships. We have committed to reducing our carbon footprint by 50% by 2030. We are achieving this through improving our on-site practices, creating eco-friendly lodges, and working with our contractors to create a more sustainable supply chain.

Where did the name Bulmer Leisure come from?

You may recognise the name Bulmer from somewhere else. That’s because for three generations, our Holiday Parks have been privately owned by the famous cider making Bulmer family. Building on the Bodior Estate, once used as a family holiday retreat for the Bulmer family, Silver Bay was founded in the 1980’s.

Continuing to use the well known and respected family name, Bulmer Leisure will now encompass both Silver Bay and Woodland Falls holiday parks. Equally luxurious, stylish, comfortable, and the perfect setting to escape life for a while.

What does this mean for current owners?

The decking of a a grey lodge This name change will not affect current or future holiday home owners. Bulmer Leisure will remain a privately owned family business, prioritising the needs of our holiday home owners.

The only difference you will find is a few name changes here and there. We can assure that your home away from home will remain the same peaceful escape as always.

You might be wondering what the benefits of buying a lodge home are and how it is better than booking a holiday abroad. Well, let us tell you why we think it could be one of the best decisions you ever make.

With the rising costs of holidaying abroad and the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, it’s no surprise that more Britons are expected to holiday in the UK in 2020 – and North Wales is expected to be one of the most popular destinations.

What if you had the option to holiday in the UK, whenever you like? Below we’ll talk about the benefits of buying a lodge home in the UK and buying on Anglesey, in particular. We’ll also give you some pointers on what you need to think about when thinking about buying a holiday home.

What are the benefits of buying a lodge home in the UK?

The value of the pound

buying a lodge home

Back in 2016, we talked about how the value of the pound had dropped since the European Union Membership Referendum result. And this is still the case as we enter 2020; at the moment you can expect to get 1.17 euros or 1.3 US dollars for every 1 pound.

By holidaying in the UK, you don’t have to worry about unpredictable exchange rates and forking out more for your holiday.

It’s close to home

Have you ever had a last minute urge to go away for the weekend or had a particularly difficult week and needed a break? As a holiday home owner in the UK, you now have that freedom.

Fancy a weekend break or a whole week away? Just hop into your car and you can be in your holiday home in no time.

Keep the kids entertained

One of the hardest parts of going on a family holiday is keeping the children entertained. By owning a lodge on a holiday park, you have facilities and entertainment on your doorstep so you never have to worry about that again.

We have a great range of activities available for your little ones so they’ll never be bored again when it comes to the school holidays.

Take your pets on holiday

buying a lodge home

Forget putting your pets in a kennel or hiring a sitter, now you can take the whole family on holiday.

We welcome all pets here at Silver Bay, just make sure to let us know before you arrive.

Why should I consider buying a lodge home on Anglesey?

The beautiful beaches

One of the main attractions for people that visit Anglesey are the beautiful beaches. We have the blue waters and sandy beaches you might expect outside of the UK, but all easily accessible from the rest of the country.

Last year, we put together some of our favourite beaches on Anglesey, including our very own Silver Bay beach.

The amazing food

Anglesey has no shortage of ingredients with many of the restaurants on the island creating delicious dishes using fresh, local produce.

We recently produced a map of the best places to eat on Anglesey based on feedback from our holiday home owners and social media followers.

The local attractions

There’s plenty of things to see and do on Anglesey. Whether you’re looking for something adventurous or a fun family activity, you’ll never be bored.

What do I need to think about when buying a lodge home?

Do your research!

The first step to buying a holiday home is always do your research. We have an online brochure to give you an idea of what life is like here at Silver Bay.

Visit the holiday park in person

Nothing comes close to seeing the real thing and we think our holiday park and lodges look great in the photos, but they look even better in the flesh. Each lodge comes with plenty of space for the whole family and is finished to the highest standard, not to mention the spectacular views.

All of this can only really be appreciated by visiting us in person. You can request a callback to arrange a visit.

Do I have the finances?

You should always try to find a holiday property that’s within your budget. We offer a selection of lodges and caravans, both pre-owned and new, so there’s sure to be something that suits your budget.

You should also remember that holiday parks will often charge site fees, which you should factor in when considering your budget.

Decide how you would like to purchase

Before purchasing your holiday home you should know that brand new caravans come with a licence of 15 years and lodges with a 50 year licence. If you would still like to go ahead, there are a few options available to you.

You can always buy the property outright with cash or you could use a private funding source; for example a remortgage or equity loan.

We’re always happy to discuss the different options with you, request a callback today and a member of our friendly team will be in touch.

On Sunday 5th August, we will open our gates for the grand opening of our new development, Bay View. Join us for fizz and nibbles and take a tour of the stunning holiday lodges available on Bay View. You can also see the amazing facilities that we have on site.

Bay View plan

The name ‘Bay View’ derives from the southerly facing plots, which benefit from breathtaking views of the Llyn Peninsula and Snowdonia. The development is just a short walk away from Silver Bay Beach and will be fully landscaped with a hard standing parking area for each holiday lodge. There are 17 holiday lodges currently available on Bay View with just five now available on the front row.

One of the lodges available to view will be the Bella Vista, a contemporary and spacious holiday lodge with a refreshing white gloss kitchen and neutral grey tones and hints of blush pink throughout. The lodge features a fully glazed front elevation with french doors and high level windows as well as a vaulted ceiling to the lounge, kitchen and diner. You can take a look at the other lodges available on our luxury lodges page but we agree that it’s definitely worth viewing the lodges in person to truly appreciate their beauty and quality.

There’s no need to book to attend our open day, just turn up on the day. If you require any further information please feel free to get in touch or, alternatively, you can request a callback and a member of our friendly team will be in touch. You can also download our free brochure to get a feel for Silver Bay before you visit. We hope to see you there!

Located on a small development of only two lodges enjoying panoramic views over Silver Bay and the Llyn Peninsula beyond, we’d like to introduce you to The Lookout holiday lodge. Created to make the most of  the awe-inspiring coastal views, and providing a sanctuary that’s every bit as unique as you are. The Lookout holiday lodge is a place where you can truly relax and be yourself.

The stunning architectural exterior of The Lookout lodge captures the eye outside; but it’s what’s inside this beautiful holiday home that’s really exciting. Modern and contemporary, yet still retaining an element of retro, the design of this property is perfect for families of all ages.

Long day at the beach? Take it easy in the elevated lounge area or enjoy the evening sunshine on the adjoining balcony. The Lookout also features a fully fitted kitchen with all the mod cons and appliances, perfect for feeding the family or entertaining friends.

The Lookout holiday lodge living room

The master bedroom comes complete with a walk-in wardrobe and wet room with a large double walk-in shower. And just across the hall you’ll find four unique cabin beds with quirky naval porthole style windows.

Our Next Open Day

The Lookout is not one to miss; but don’t just take our word for it. You can view the lodge for yourself on our next open day, taking place 12-4pm on Sunday 3rd June. This will give you the opportunity to explore the park, the lodges and the facilities Silver Bay has to offer. Plus there’ll be some fizz and nibbles for you to enjoy!

If you would like to see more images of The Lookout, you can find them here. Or, if you would like to find out more about The Lookout or the open day, please call us on 01407 860860 or request a callback.
