Which Holiday Home Should I Buy?

Purchasing your very own holiday home is a very big decision. Apart from the initial purchase fee, you will also need to consider running costs and on-going maintenance.

The holiday home you buy can have a massive impact on all of this with some manufacturers adhering to a higher baseline standards than others. That is where the BS3632 regulations come in.

What Are BS3632 Standards?

Back in 1963, the UK government published the BS3632 standards to dictate the minimum quality criteria that residential UK holiday homes should adhere to. This was intended to protect buyers by adding a layer of security in the buying process.

These standards cover a wide variety of areas. From a safety perspective, a minimum standard of building materials and construction methods are outlined to ensure that all holiday homes are suitable for habitation; fundamental in ensuring the safety of both yourself and your family.

Running costs are also taken into account with the inclusion of criteria such as insulation, double glazing and much more.

Do All UK Holiday Homes Meet BS3632 Standards?

The simple answer to this is, no!

Some holiday homes may instead meet the EN1647 standards which are an alternative set of regulations utilised within the EU.

Sadly EN1647 standards are nowhere near as extensive as those which govern the UK holiday home industry. The EU regulations are instead intended to provide a minimum standard of park homes which are to be used as temporary holiday accommodation as opposed to full time residential purposes.

Naturally this means that EU holiday homes do not need to be designed to be as enduring as their UK equivalents. This can impact not only on running cost on account of reduced insulation levels for example, but even affect safety standards with the building techniques outlined being far less stringent.

How Do I Know The Difference?

Any UK holiday homes which adhere to the superior BS3632 standards will proudly display the below logo. This is the easiest way to identify a holiday home which is designed to stand the test of time:

However, should you find yourself in doubt, make sure that you ask before committing to a purchase! You wouldn’t buy a car without looking into its Euro Ncap rating or fuel efficiency, so why act any differently when it comes to making the big decision on which holiday home is right for you?

Here at Bulmer Leisure, we can guarantee that all of the new and preloved holiday homes that we have for sale on our Anglesey holiday parks adhere to the more stringent BS3632 standards. When you purchase a holiday home from us, you can therefore be confident that your home away from home will be safe for your family and efficient when it comes to long-term running fees.

Introducing Bulmer Leisure

We are very pleased to announce the introduction of Bulmer Leisure, a name that will encompass all of our present and future holiday parks. After more than 30 successful years of Silver Bay Holiday Park and an expansion to the North side of the island in Lligwy, we introduce a name that will uphold the values we want to protect the very most. Any Bulmer Leisure holiday park will be the perfect place for families, couples and friends to have the opportunity to enjoy the stunning scenery of Anglesey from the comfort of our luxury caravans and lodges.

Bulmer Leisure will continue to uphold the same values and family ethos we always have. We have committed to reducing our carbon footprint by 50% by 2030. We are achieving this through improving our on-site practices, creating eco-friendly lodges, and working with our contractors to create a more sustainable supply chain.

Where did the name Bulmer Leisure come from?

You may recognise the name Bulmer from somewhere else. That’s because for three generations, our Holiday Parks have been privately owned by the famous cider making Bulmer family. Building on the Bodior Estate, once used as a family holiday retreat for the Bulmer family, Silver Bay was founded in the 1980’s.

Continuing to use the well known and respected family name, Bulmer Leisure will now encompass both Silver Bay and Woodland Falls holiday parks. Equally luxurious, stylish, comfortable, and the perfect setting to escape life for a while.

What does this mean for current owners?

The decking of a a grey lodge This name change will not affect current or future holiday home owners. Bulmer Leisure will remain a privately owned family business, prioritising the needs of our holiday home owners.

The only difference you will find is a few name changes here and there. We can assure that your home away from home will remain the same peaceful escape as always.
